Stefanie Hendrickson

Coordinator, Campbell River & District Coalition to End Homelessness

Stefanie has lived in Campbell River since 2019 and has worked for non-profit organizations for over 13 years. Hailing from the Interior of BC her passion lies in bringing communities together. She is a firm believer that multi-sectoral collaboration is key to community change and prosperity.

Now self-employed, Stefanie is a private consultant working with small organizations, such as the Campbell River & District Coalition to End Homelessness where she provides project management by acting as Coordinator. 

She is naturally attracted to providing services and/or project management for programs that are built on strategy, evidence, cooperation, community, and shared purpose.

 

Madison Stewart

Strathcona Community Health Network

Coordinator

Madison is Campbell River born, and raised. She currently holds a contract as the program coordinator for the Strathcona Community Food Hub and Strathcona Community Health Network. She is passionate about equity, sustainability in all its forms and considers herself a life-long learner.

Previous to her work in Campbell River, she was an intern-turned employee with UNESCO in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and in Luang Prabang, Laos where she worked with rural Indigenous communities entering regional markets.

Madison also enjoys soccer, the beach and her dog, Luca

 

The Coordinating Circle is made up of multi-sectoral representation. It is made up of individuals or agency representatives who are actively engaged in ending and preventing homelessness and/or who have expertise related to housing and homelessness. These professionals provide strategic direction and leadership to the Coordinator.

Kaitlyn Nohr

Island Health

Manager, Toxic Drug Crisis Response, Vancouver Island

Kaitlyn (she/her) is a registered social worker with Island Health, as well as the founder of WILD Collaborative Harm Reduction Services, and has been working in social services for 15 years. 

Her work experience involves supporting folks from all ages, backgrounds, demographics, and experiences through case management, as well as in systemic advocacy, equity, and program development. 

Kaitlyn has a particular interest in working with marginalized and vulnerable demographics through a deeply rooted harm reduction philosophy and finds collaboration to be the key to moving forward in safe and healthy ways. 

Kaitlyn currently sits on several leadership committees in Campbell River and across the Island.

 
 

Chrystal Arnet

Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North

Community Engagement & Events Manager

Chrystal was born and raised on Vancouver Island and has made Campbell River her home since 1996. Wanting to make a difference in her community regarding housing affordability, Chrystal was happy to join the team at Habitat in the spring of 2023, where, with the help of volunteers and generous donors, Habitat builds decent and affordable homes that provide a solid foundation for local families to build better, healthier lives.

Before joining Habitat for Humanity, she and her sister co-owned a restaurant and catering business for 26 years. She has served in the past on several business and not-for-profit committees and boards, including the Campbell River Chamber of Commerce, Campbell River Downtown BIA, Museum of Campbell River, Hower Meeker Special Olympics Golf Tournament, Daybreak Rotary and the Campbell River Community Foundation Grant Selection Committee.

Taryn O’Flanagan

Vancouver Island Mental Health Society

Executive Director

Taryn is the Executive Director for the Vancouver Island Mental Health Society. In her role, she has been responsible for creating and implementing a variety of housing projects. Most recently, she has led the development of two supportive housing buildings, an affordable housing development, the Rosebowl Bridge Housing, the Sobering and Assessment Center and the Overdose Prevention Site in Campbell River.

Prior to her work at VIMHS, Taryn worked extensively in housing and justice programs as a Mental Health and Substance Use Counsellor. In 2013, she was appointed as the Executive Director for the Nanaimo Region John Howard Society and in 2016 she worked as the Provincial Clinical Manager for Mental Health and Substance use in all 9 Provincial Correctional Centers. She has also been a member of the Nanaimo Coalition to End Homelessness since 2013.

Taryn takes great pride in building relationships and new partnerships. She believes that her community development experience and her relationships with partners and stakeholders in B.C’s non-profit sector will lend well to being a member of the leadership team on the Campbell River Coalition to End Homelessness.

Kirsten Zaleschuk

Campbell River & North Island Transition Society

Rose Harbour Housing Manager

Kirsten (she/her) embarked on her journey into the field of social services in 2014, inspired by an early interest in psychology and caring professions. Motivated by personal life experiences, Kirsten completed a practicum with the Campbell River & District North Island Transition Society in 2017 and graduated from North Island College with a Social Services Diploma, solidifying her commitment to supporting women and children in transition.

From 2017 to 2021, Kirsten progressed through various frontline roles within the Society, notably as a dedicated support worker at Rose Harbour during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. In December 2021, she was appointed Rose Harbour’s Program Coordinator, becoming Housing Manager in May 2022.

As Housing Manager, Kirsten has provided oversight to a team of Activity Workers, fostering connections within the Rose Harbour community amid the pandemic. She’s a pilot participant of the BC Society of Transition Houses’ Cedar Blankets project, aiming to remove barriers for Indigenous women and their dependent children seeking safety through transition society services.

Kirsten’s involvement in the Coordinating Circle reflects her devotion to supporting Campbell River community members experiencing homelessness, violence, and the effects of substance use. Beyond work, she enjoys gardening and exploring the island with her retrievers, Ella and Beau.
